Broken hydrant floods town

Monday night, in frigid cold, Loy Larson and the city water crew worked feverishly when a fire hydrant at Fifth Street and Jackson Avenue was hit and broken, apparently by a car. That released a torrent of water down Fifth, turning east at Summit Avenue and south again to the King’s Bar parking lot, Highway 2 and beyond. A resident called police, who called the city water crew. “We had to find five different places to shut the water off to keep from flooding the town out,” Larson said Tuesday. That meant Larson had to locate the “gate valves” with a metal detector, and then the crew had to dig eight to 10 inches under the street to reach the valves and shut them off.

I feel that he is now displaying the spirt that has made this country great, and I am sure we will endure as a leading nation for a good many years yet, in spite of the rantings of the dictators.
