Suspicious death probed in Newport

NEWPORT — The Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious death of a Hayden man on Tuesday.

Sheriff's officials said dispatchers received a report of an unconscious person at a residence at an undisclosed address on Deer Valley Road, which is west of downtown. Attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation were unsuccessful, the office said in a news release.

Deputies arrived and found the male was deceased. He was identified as Michael R. Gillock, 35.

Sheriff's officials said they interviewed with everyone who was around Gillock at the time of his death, but did not disclose what they told investigators.

"The circumstances of his death were suspicious and require further investigation," Deputy Kevin Olsen said in the brief news release.

An autopsy to determine a cause and manner of death is pending.

Sheriff's officials said they would not be providing any further details at this time.
