State: 27,580 vaccine doses given in PHD

| February 13, 2021 1:00 AM

Two numbers: 27,580 and 40,525.

The first is how many doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Panhandle Health District. The second is how many have been distributed in the district.

Both are on the state’s “COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Transparency Data" website.

That 71% of the doses have been administered puts the district among the state’s leaders in that area.

At the top of the list is the South Central district, at 74% (25,670 distributed, 18,697 administered), while the lowest district is North Central at 56% (17,900 distributed and 9,984 administered).

In the Central District, 104,295 doses have been distributed — the most in the state — while 74,634 have been administered, which is 72%.

In the PHD, Kootenai Health has administered the most doses, 8,821, while PHD has administered 7,511 doses. Northwest Specialty Hospital has administered 4,925 doses.

Per the state website, 14,518 Kootenai County residents have been vaccinated, the second-most in the state. In Bonner County, 4,126 have been vaccinated, while in Shoshone it stands at 1,117 and 889 in Benewah County.

Ada County, at 54,403, is the county with the most people vaccinated.

"Panhandle Health District distributes vaccine to over a dozen enrolled vaccine providers throughout the five northern counties each week," according to a PHD press release. "Vaccine providers submit a request for the number of doses they would like to receive and then PHD arranges delivery or for the provider to pick-up at PHD’s distribution center."

As to why PHD has vaccine doses that are not distributed, it says:

"It’s important to keep in mind that the number of doses reported on the state's site include second doses, which are earmarked for those who have received their first dose already. Some weeks PHD has received these 2nd doses 1-3 weeks in advance, so even though they show up in our inventory as not administered they are spoken for. It’s also important to note that PHD receives shipments of vaccine that are distributed to over a dozen enrolled providers in our area. As each provider is setting up, preparing for, and scheduling appointments for their vaccine clinics, they rely on us to store their shipments until they are ready to administer."
