Sandpoint Lacrosse Club offering free clinics this Saturday
SANDPOINT – The Sandpoint Lacrosse Club is offering two free clinics this Saturday for area youth who would like to check out the exciting game of lacrosse.
Known as "the fastest sport on two feet," lacrosse is a high energy field sport that most closely resembles basketball or ice hockey in the way it is played. It is a high scoring game with lots of fast breaks and exciting turnovers.
The Sandpoint Lacrosse Club currently offers boys and girls teams for youth in grades second through eighth as well as a high school girls’ and a high school boys’ team.
The lacrosse clinics will take place at the Bonner County Fairgrounds Main Exhibit Hall and are free and open to all area youth who would like to pick up a stick and try their hand at a new sport.
The clinic is separated by gender as the boys’ and girls’ teams use different equipment and play under different rules. The girls clinic will take place from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday and the boys clinic runs from 3-5 p.m.
All players will be outfitted with the gear they need to participate. Players should wear gym shoes and comfortable clothing.
Experienced coaches will be on hand to instruct players on how to play lacrosse and to run fun drills and games.
Lacrosse is the fastest growing team sport in America and here in Sandpoint the number of players continues to grow. The clinics are in preparation for the club’s spring season which is about to kick-off.
The club is especially excited about this upcoming season for two reasons. First, the 2020 season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic and second, this year the club has access to War Memorial Field, thus ensuring no games will be canceled or delayed due to wet fields. Player registration for the 2021 season is currently open. To register or for more information about the Sandpoint Lacrosse Club go to www.sandpointlacrosse.org or email sandpointlacrosse@gmail.com.
