DYW holds Be Your Best Self workshop

| February 19, 2021 1:00 AM

Distinguished Young Women of Sandpoint held their annual Be Your Best Self workshop on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Be Your Best Self is Distinguished Young Women's official outreach program. Participants are encouraged to “be healthy, be involved, be studious, be ambitions and be responsible,” and to reach out to the youth of our community to make a commitment to being their best selves, DYW officials said in a press release.

The workshop was an afternoon of fun and education through interactive presentations of each of the five elements. Participants Adriana Foxx, Madison Gunter, Lucinda Meshberg, Ali Terry and Amanda Steiner, along with Katie Stewart, Spirit and BYBS scholarship winner for the class of 2021, and current Distinguished Young Woman of Sandpoint, Camille Neuder, now Distinguished Young Woman of Idaho, teamed up to share the BYBS message with young girls between the age of 6 and 11 who are fondly referred to as, “Little Misses.”

The girls then focused on one element, “Being Involved.” DYW officials said the participants and Little Misses worked together to create 86 Valentine’s Day cards to present to the residents at Luther Park Assisted Living in Sandpoint.

“Each individual handmade card was filled with love and the spirit of Valentine’s Day,” DYW officials said in the release. “The girls worked up an appetite being so creative and wish to thank Rob Foxx and his entire staff at Safeway for providing individually wrapped sandwiches, soups, and cookies for all to enjoy.”

With the help of Nora Horn, life enrichment supervisor at Luther Park, the cards were safely delivered to Luther Park residents in time for Valentine’s Day. “The residents were so excited and we actually used them to surprise everyone at dinner time. They loved them and especially loved the picture of the girls attached to each card,” Horn said.

Distinguished Young Women of Sandpoint will be held March 13 at Sandpoint Middle School. Ticket sales will NOT be available at the door, due to COVID-19 protocols, so please reach out to one of our participants or email secretary.sandpointdyw@gmail.com to inquire about purchasing tickets. Adult tickets-$12. Student/Child tickets-$10 each.
