Man accused of stealing Ziply rig
SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man claimed voices in his head told him to steal a truck belonging to an internet service provider on Friday.
James Edward Keeton was charged with felony theft after he was found behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck owned by Ziply Fiber. The rig was reportedly stolen at Second and Cedar.
Sandpoint Police later spotted the vehicle pulling into the East Bonner County Library at Division and Cedar. Keeton was arrested at gunpoint, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Keeton, 25, apologized for taking the vehicle and told police that voices in his head told him to commandeer the truck, the affidavit said. He told officers he did not intend to commit grand theft auto.
Keeton was wearing a Ziply company jacket when he was apprehended, according to court documents.
Keeton made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court via videoconferencing with the jail on Monday. Court minutes from the hearing were not immediately available, however.
