SSA hosting open house on Saturday

| January 15, 2021 1:00 AM

“Character First then ability.” Famous words of violinist, humanitarian and educator Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. “Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” Shinichi Suzuki.

At Suzuki String Academy, Ruth Klinginsmith, Marianne Wall and new cello instructor, Bianca Prado, all share this vision.

It is the group's mission, said Klinginsmith, to develop beautiful hearts, foster relationships and build character through teaching music. "We are passionate about investing in the lives of students and their families and creating a supportive community."

The Sandpoint community and surrounding area is invited to learn more about the Suzuki method and philosophy at the academy's open house Saturday, Jan. 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Suzuki String Academy is located in the old Ninth Grade Center, 102 S. Euclid Ave., Suite 106.

The open house offers a chance to learn about the philosophy and teaching method, ask questions, or try out a violin or cello.

SSZ also is offering a free cello workshop Saturday from 10-11 a.m. with Prado, who holds a master’s degree in cello performance and string pedagogy, has taught Suzuki cello for seven years and. All levels welcome and extra cellos will be available for use during this class.

Coming up is the SSA Ready, Set, Suzuki Parent workshop, set for Jan. 20-23. In this five-hour parent workshop, academy staff will teach the basics of proper set up to help parents support their child with productive practice at home.

Suzuki String Academy offers private and group instruction in violin, cello and voice and offers early childhood music and movement classes. SSA also features beginner and intermediate chamber ensembles.
