PRIEST RIVER — Bonners Ferry completed a season sweep of Priest River girls basketball on Tuesday night, dominating the Spartans 56-9.

The Badgers, the fifth ranked team in 3A, held Priest River scoreless in the first quarter to take a commanding 28-0 lead and they cruised from there.

"The most disappointing performance of our season," head coach Gary Stewart said. "We couldn't run a set all night."

The Badgers won the first meeting between these two schools on Jan. 7 61-24 in Bonners Ferry.

"Our effort for the most part is pretty good, but our ability to read situations needs a lot of work," Stewart said. "Basketball comes down to the skill of quickly making decisions in a hostile environment and that takes a lot of practice."

Senior Hannah Palfrey led the team with three points.

Despite the loss, Stewart saw some great things from freshman post Allyson Barton, who had five rebounds in the first half.

"She worked her tail off all night defensively, and had great position on offense on a lot of post-ups, we just couldn't get her the ball," he said. "But really Bonners Ferry came ready to play and shut us down offensively."

On Saturday, the Spartans suffered a 68-17 defeat at the hands of Timberlake.

The Tigers, the No. 2 ranked 3A team in the state, jumped out to a 19-6 first-quarter lead and cruised from there.

Makia Fitzmorris, Lilly Freitas and Barton each scored four points in the game.

Priest River (3-11, 0-4 IML) hosts Kellogg at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. On Jan. 12, the Spartans lost 53-17 at the Wildcats.
