SHS wrestling team shut down after first day of North Idaho Rumble

COEUR d'ALENE — The Sandpoint wrestling team will not be competing in the second day of the North Idaho Rumble on Saturday.
On the bus ride home from the tournament on Friday night, head coach Jake Stark said he was informed that the team had come in contact with someone that recently tested positive for COVID-19, thus preventing them from competing on Saturday.
"It just sucks because we were doing pretty really well there," Stark said. "We were going to place a couple guys."
The school will now conduct contact tracing and at this time it is still unclear if the team will have to quarantine for 10 days.
Stark said not getting a chance to finish the North Idaho Rumble is definitely disappointing for his wrestlers, but they'll keep pushing forward like they have all season.
"We're just rolling with the punches this year," he said. "We're just trying to stay positive and get through this thing."
On the mat Friday at Coeur d'Alene High, Forrest Ambridge, Tanner Dickson, Raphael Eldridge, Jordan Birkhimer, Jacob Crum, Trevan Adam, Sam Becker, Owen Wimmer and Matt Thurlow all earned one match victory.
"We wrestled really strong tonight," Stark said.
