12U Sandpoint All-Stars begin pursuit for district title today

| July 2, 2021 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — The 12U Sandpoint Little League All-Stars open play in the District 1 Tournament today in Coeur d'Alene.

Sandpoint will face Post Falls at 5:30 p.m. Friday on field No. 2 at the Canfield Sports Complex. It's the first step in a dream that all youth baseball players have — playing in the Little League World Series.

The game against Post Falls will start two weeks of pool play for Sandpoint. They will battle Lakeland at noon Saturday and Coeur d'Alene at 10 a.m. on the Fourth of July.

Next weekend, the All-Stars play Lewiston on June 9 and Hayden on June 10. The top two teams in pool play will advance to the District 1 Championship on June 16-18. All pool play games will be contested at Canfield Sports Complex.

The district winner will advance to the state championship, and then regionals in San Bernardino, California, if the District 1 representative emerges as the top team in Idaho.

The next step after that is the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

"The boys have been putting in the work, practicing every day in the recent heat wave to get ready for the upcoming tournament and are excited to get started this weekend," coach John Aexel said.
