19U Lakers crush St. Maries; 16U thrashes Mt. Spokane

ST. MARIES — The 19U North Idaho Lakers sailed past St. Maries on Tuesday.

The American Legion baseball team held its opponent to just three runs en route to a road doubleheader sweep.

The Peak Sand and Gravel Lakers were cooking at the plate in the opener. They recorded 13 hits and five players tallied two as North Idaho secured a dominant 21-0 win in five innings.

Greg Belgarde, Conagher McCown, Finn Mellander, Kody MacDonald, Mick Koch and Jack Ringer each had two hits. MacDonald and Koch both drove in four runs and Mellander had three RBIs.

Trevor Brackett and Ringer teamed up for a four-hit shutout. They combined for 11 strikeouts.

North Idaho continued to pour it on in the nightcap, tallying 18 hits in a 27-3 victory over St. Maries.

Koch was a monster at the plate. He hit a grand slam in the first inning and a two-run homer in the fourth, driving in a total of nine runs.

Brackett went 4 for 4 with three RBIs. McCown, Belgarde and Everett Hannah all brought in three runs as well.

The 19U Lakers (10-14) head to Silver Valley at 1 p.m. today for a North Idaho League doubleheader.

The 16U Lakers were also in action and they grabbed a commanding 17-3 win over Mt. Spokane at Pine Street Field. The team scored six runs in the second and fifth inning to 10-run rule Mt. Spokane.

Brady Newhart went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Chase Sanroman, Gavin Day and Jacob Hansen also drove in a pair of runs.

Coleman Inge started on the bump, allowing one and striking out a pair over two innings. Hansen struck out five and surrendered two runs over two innings.

Mt. Spokane committed nine errors and the Lakers stole 10 bases.

The Lakers (8-8-1) host Shadle Park at 4 p.m. today at War Memorial Field.
