Library offers cool fun during hot days

There’s no doubt about it: it’s hot out. If you’ve looked at the 10-day forecast any time recently, then you’re aware it’s going to be hot out for a while. If you’re anything like me, the sun is your mortal enemy and exists only to scorch your skin into a shade of color that can only be described as: “Raw Bacon No. 133.”

It’s these hot July days that drive many of us back indoors, seeking the sweet relief of the shadows and air conditioning. Luckily for me, the library has a plethora of indoor activities tailored just to my needs. Thanks to the multitude of resources found in the digital library on ebonnerlibrary.org , I don’t even need to leave my house. No longer will I live in fear of shoe soles stuck to the surface of a smoldering blacktop.

The digital library boasts countless resources you may not even be aware of, including a deeply comprehensive small business reference center, complete with set-up kits and basic tutorials, as well as coverage of advanced subjects like marketing and networking with other small business owners and professionals. Not planning on becoming the next Sam Walton? That’s fine, too. The small business reference center also has detailed guides to teach you how to get started selling homemade products on sites such as eBay and Etsy, turning your hobby into a sweet side job or even a lifelong career.

Maybe you fancy yourself a crafter, preferring hot glue over the hot sun. The digital library has a resource for that as well in Creativebug with countless tutorial videos to teach you the art of making. This is a powerful resource that is often hidden behind internet paywalls or annoying subscription services elsewhere on the internet.

If it’s too hot for any of that, perhaps you’re yearning to curse the sun in a brand new language? The digital library grants you access to multiple sources to go about learning a new language - from Mango languages to Pronunciator, you can live your dream of leaving your friends in awe as you beg the sun for mercy in a brand new tongue.

These are just a handful of resources available to you as a library patron through the digital library. They’re all easy to find by heading over to the East Bonner County Library District’s website at www.ebonnerlibrary.org and clicking on the “Digital Library” tab. Many of these services can be used from the comfort of your own air-conditioned home, or even from your mobile device if you’re the kind of person that can tan.

The best thing about all of these features is that they’re completely free to use. All you need is a library card, which I like to call my “Passport to Enlightenment''. See you when the rain clouds come.
