Sandra J. Fraser
Sandra J. Fraser, 84 passed away on July 6, 2021 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
She traveled the world, as a flight attendant, and later on a motorcycle across the U.S. and Europe with her husband Doug. However, Sandra Jean Smith Fraser was a small town girl. Born in Baker City, Oregon, she spent her last 20 years in Sandpoint. She loved bragging about Sandpoint’s many charms.
Her decorating expertise can be seen in the Cedar Street Bridge Public Market, historic homes, and-most notably-her own remodeled residence, the 1903 bright yellow farmhouse with the red roof on Lake Street, once owned by the Moon family.
Sandra enjoyed singing, both in choirs and alone, and would break into song at a moment’s notice. She was competitive during family game time and often won, or struggled to tolerate losing to the point of denial. A glamourpuss who loved fancy clothes, she always sported a red lip, a perfect brow, and a fresh mani-pedi.
Sandra and Doug’s home was the gathering place for their large blended family. Sandra loved to spoil them with her decadent hot fudge sauce, lemon meringue pie and biscuits. She and Doug were never without a beloved cat or dog. Most recently, dogs Annie, Choco and Shadow have enjoyed being indulged like children.
Sandra knew who she was, and wasn’t afraid to show it. She was opinionated, sassy, passionate, and loyal about her loved ones. She gave, until time forced her to accept receiving. Many family, friends, caregivers and Hospice volunteers tended to her as she struggled with Alzheimer’s for her last 12 years.
None did this more lovingly than her best friend and husband, Doug. Marriage is a marathon, and Doug & Sandra set an example of grace, patience, hard work, struggle, and a joyful crossing over the finish line for Sandra.
