What happened to an honest day's work?

| June 1, 2021 1:00 AM

The federal government is still paying out extra unemployment benefits in addition to the state's unemployment. This has resulted in the unintended consequence of employers not being able to get workers. An example is that where I buy my trees from a company up by Bonners Ferry. The gal in the office told me they can't get workers. She said that with the extra unemployment from the Feds, workers told her they make more on unemployment than they do working, or close to it, so "why work." Also, if you notice you are starting to see these "help wanted signs."

It used to be that for people on unemployment, they would have to look for a job. They would come into my store and ask for a job. I had to sign their sheet that they had asked. But anymore they don't have to look for work to continue getting unemployment. We now have a system that is going toward socialism. It is, "why work, when I get paid for sitting at home." It is a sad situation.

And now I see the Democrats in Congress want to extend the extra unemployment until Labor Day. Holy cow, is the United States going to go the way of the Roman Empire?

What happened to the "an honest day's work for an honest day's dollar?" Our government doesn't comprehend this, or most other things for that matter.
