SAGLE — A Bonner County homeowner's guest house suffered fire and water damage following a Friday afternoon fire on Glengary Bay Road.

Sixteen fire personnel from multiple fire crews responded to the Glengary Bay residence around noon to fight the structure fire.

“It’s a bummer,” said Steve Thorp, while watching fire personnel tear the roof of his guest house apart shingle by shingle. “We’ve been working on this place.”

Incident commander, Selkirk Fire Capt. Reny Hansen told the Daily Bee that fire crews contained the blaze, and most of the visible damage, to the attic of the two-story guest house —
“The high stress is over,” she said, “but we still don’t know what caused it.”

The Idaho Fire Marshal’s office is conducting an investigation into what caused the fire.

Thorp’s guest house is one of many structures located on his lakefront property.
“At least it didn’t catch anything else on fire," said Thorp. "It’s dry out there.”

Bonner County first responders worked together with Sam Owen Fire, Northside Fire, Timberlake Fire, Northern Lights, and the Idaho Department of Lands. An Idaho Fire Marshal investigator arrived after the blaze was contained to begin investigation.

With a hand shielding his eyes from the sun, Thorp stared into his garage,

“I can’t even move my car, the battery is dead, and now there’s no power in there.” Shortly after, four members of the fire brigade pushed Thorp’s vintage Cadillac from the garage, a smile across Thorp’s face while he cruised by in the driver’s seat.

“It was tough. They did a great job, and nobody got hurt,” Thorp said. “That’s what’s important.”
