Newtons celebrate 60th anniversary

Skip and Helen Newton were married 60 years ago today in the Methodist Church which was on the corner of Fourth and Main. The couple have been active members of the church since 1956.

High school sweethearts since their junior year at Sandpoint High School, Helen attended the University of Idaho while Skip was at Idaho State College in Pocatello. Skip had a 32-year career with the engineering division of the U. S. Forest Service. Helen served for 24 years as Sandpoint's city clerk.

They have two daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all living in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska.

A family gathering hosted by their daughters was held at their home on June 19.
