Sarah Louise 'Sally' Penney Freeman Osborn

| June 25, 2021 1:00 AM

Sally Osborn passed away on June 20, 2021 in Cincinnati, Ohio after a brief illness at the age of 86.

Sally was born on April 24, 1935, into the Penney family of Libertyville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Oz” Osborn. She is survived by her sons, Andy Freeman, Dean Freeman, Scott Osborn and Mike Osborn, as well as seven grandchildren (Lindsay, Kaylin, Melissa, Jenna, Michael, Eric and Laura) and four great-grandchildren (Henry, George, Ada, and Miles.)  Sally was the youngest of three and grew up in Libertyville, Illinois.

She moved to California and attended Pomona College and UCLA. After marrying her first husband, Roger Freeman, she raised Andy and Dean in California and Germany. She met Oz in the mid-1970s, sailed with him in the South Pacific and explored the world. In 1990, she and Oz settled in Sandpoint, Idaho, where they lived for 30-plus years.

Sally preferred quiet and simple pleasures. She enjoyed traveling and learning about history and new cultures.  She loved intimate conversations, sailing with Oz, reading books, discovering new music, playing the piano, a sunny room, watching scenes in nature, researching genealogy, and eating a really good chocolate chip cookie.

Sally collected memorable newspaper articles, programs from events,  labels from  good wines, trinkets,  little post-it notes, books, and especially pictures.  Every item was labelled and stored in zip-lock bags or boxes ready for her quick retrieval to surprise unwary visitors and captivate them with her stories.

At a future date, a private memorial will be held with family and close friends.

It was Oz and Sally’s wish that their ashes would be sprinkled at the west end of Catalina Island in California where they spent many memorable times and sunsets on their sailboat together.

The family asks that any donations be made in Sally's name to any worthy charity.
