Substantial gains made on Little Pine Fire

| June 27, 2021 1:00 AM

Idaho Department of Lands fire crews continue to make substantial progress in fighting the Little Pine Fire.

Despite the high temperatures already hitting the area, crews have the fire 35% contained. The fire is contained at 180 acres and crews have completed fireline around the entire fire perimeter.

IDL officials said Saturday morning that fire behavior overnight was minimal with creeping and smoldering remaining within Idaho Endowment Timberland boundaries.

Saturday, crews were expected to reinforce and secure containment lines and continue mop up operations on the Little Pine Fire. Heat will continue to effect firefighting efforts as forecasted temperatures continue their climb into the 100s over the next five to seven days, IDL officials said.

In a press release updating fire crews' efforts, the Little Pine Fire incident management team thanked all the local first responders and fire organizations that contributed to the successes achieved so far on the fire.

“Without a strong initial attack, we could have been sitting in a different position today,” said incident commander Mike McManus.

The public should expect to see smoke as the fire burns internal pockets of fuels. These pockets may produce large plumes at times due to the heavy fuel loading in the area.

The fire is burning 7 miles north of Priest River in Pine Creek, 1 mile south of Blue Lake in Bonner County, Idaho. It was reported Tuesday, June 22 at 3 p.m.
