GOP's calls for unity smack of hypocrisy

| March 16, 2021 1:00 AM

Who wants unity in America?

Over the past year, Trump supporters have denied the seriousness of COVID-19, while tens of thousands of Americans died.

Republicans tried 65 times to prove in court that the election was stolen, without ever providing one bit of evidence. And 65 times they failed, including a defeat with the Trump-appointed Supreme Court.

Fox news cast doubt on the election results 774 times between Nov. 3, 2020, and Jan. 6, 2021, even after the actual news on Fox reported Biden had won. This dis-information campaign has continued despite the fact nobody with actual knowledge of the process has ever made the claim the election was stolen.

Republican Trump supporters, the arrogant self-proclaimed vanguard of the U.S. Constitution, showed their respect for that document by sacking the Capitol building on Jan 6th because their candidate lost the election. In that effort to overturn the election, these “back the blue” fanatics beat capitol police with various weapons.

For 4 years, Trump has engaged in continuous name-calling and insults and endlessly harped on election fraud, while aided by Fox, Limbaugh, and Breitbart, and issued over 30,000 lies and misleading statements.

And, in their ongoing effort to see who can strike the lowest blow, Biden’s dog Champ is now a target of their petty and mean-spirited wrath. Why? Because they don’t have a more legitimate target to attack.

And now they appeal to the Democrats for “unity.” What part of this is not the definition of hypocrisy?
