You can lead a horse to water …
Jeremy Colin's January 26, 2021 letter brings to mind the adage, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.” In the letter, he falsely claims that I criticized misinformation from three sources, but failed to back up my criticism with scientifically verifiable evidence. In fact, in each case, I provided links to websites that gave scientifically validated refutations of the basic claims made by those sources. If Mr. Conlin chooses to ignore those links, that is his prerogative. However, it is disingenuous of him to state that I didn't provide them.
The following are responses to the “findings” he listed in his letter. Human activity is the dominant driver of global warming. (See: “How Do We Know that Humans Are the Major Cause of Global Warming?”) Polar bear health is declining in warmer regions of the arctic. (See: “Polar bears are getting thinner and having fewer cubs. Melting sea ice is to blame”) Glaciers are retreating in Glacier Park and worldwide. (See: “Retreat of Glaciers in Glacier National Park”)
Although some imprecise predictions about certain impacts of climate change have been made in the past, computer models have been accurate in predicting the extent of warming. See: “Climate Models Got It Right on Global Warming” To learn how bad the predictions of the warming deniers have been, see: “A Climate Bet Impossible to Lose.” According to NASA, 2020 tied for the hottest year on record. The last seven years have been the hottest ever recorded.
