Spartan golf ready for districts
SANDPOINT — On a challenging course against some talented competition, the Priest River boys golf team placed seventh out of eight teams at the Sandpoint Invitational on Monday at The Idaho Club.
The Spartans and Bonners Ferry were the only 3A schools at the tournament. Priest River beat the Badgers by 36 strokes.
Kameron Salesky had the low round for the Spartans with a 93. Luke Butler carded a 99, Bowen Fegert posted a 111 and Jace Yount finished with a 114.
Olivia Hoepfer was the only girl that took the course for Priest River. She shot a 117.
Last Wednesday, the Spartans competed in the fourth and final Intermountain League match of the season at The Links Golf Club.
The match was moved from the Twin Lakes Village Golf Course to The Links due to course conditions.
For the first time this season, Priest River fielded enough golfers on the girls side to record a team score. They placed third behind Bonners Ferry and Kellogg.
Hoepfer (99), Sarah Storro (113), Brooklyn Best (121), Kaylea Rantala (131) and Maria Hass (137) all posted scores for the Spartans.
The boys finished second to Kellogg by 47 strokes. Butler (85), Salesky (92), Yount (102), Fegert (103) and Brady O’Brien (106) competed for the boys.
Hoepfer and Butler both placed third as individuals at the tournament.
The Spartans head to the Lakeland Invitational on Thursday for their final regular season tournament. On Monday, Priest River will travel to the Twin Lakes Village Golf Club in Rathdrum for the 3A District 1 championships.
