Girls earn second, boys place seventh at Lakeland Invitational; SHS competes in regionals Monday

POST FALLS — The Sandpoint golf team wrapped up its regular season with the Lakeland Invitational on Thursday at The Links Golf Club.
The girls took home second, finishing two strokes behind first place Coeur d'Alene, while the boys secured seventh out of 11 teams.
Hattie Larson stepped up for the girls and shot a 90 to place third. CeCe Deprez and Annaby Kanning each carded a 95, Audrey Sheffler posted a 98 and Lyndie Wilks finished with a 123.
The girls were without their No. 3, Camille Neuder, who was busy competing for SHS track at the District 1 Meet of Champions. Head coach Mike Deprez said the Bulldogs might have been able to grasp the team title with Neuder's help, but Sheffler rose to the occasion.
"We were extremely excited about Audrey Sheffler shooting 98," he said. "That was a big leap forward for her and hopefully speaks well for districts and the future."
The boys continued to stay right with their regional foes, Lakeland and Moscow. Sandpoint was nine strokes behind the Hawks and seven behind the Bears. Deprez said the boys certainly have a chance to grab the regional title.
"The real benefit for us is we got a very good look at how close we are to Lakeland and Moscow," Deprez said about the boys. "We now kind of know what we're up against."
Harley Wilks led the way with an 83, Connor Bird had an 88, Dawson Owens and Darren Bailey each shot a 90 and Jake Samuels carded a 91.
The Bulldogs will head back to The Links on Monday for the 4A Region 1 championships. Deprez said it was nice to get a feel for the course they will play on again in a few days and he likes what he's seeing from his golfers heading into regionals.
"The good news for us is that we really got a great chance to see the speed of those greens ... and I'm actually pretty happy with the state of everybody's games," he said.
