Reuter takes third in final tournament before districts

KELLOGG — Clark Fork's Cole Reuter shot an 83 to place third in the Wallace Invitational on Friday at the Shoshone Golf Club.

Freshman Landin Pierson carded a 121 and junior Jacob Abbott posted a 137.

Reuter finished three strokes behind the medalist, St. Maries' Seth Swallows.

Head coach Brian Arthun said Reuter struggled a bit on the front nine, but settled down on the back and shot a 37 to get back into the conversation for medalist honors.

"The second nine he played way better and got three straight birdies to get back in it," he said.

The Wampus Cats will head to St. Maries Golf Course on Monday for the 2A District 1-2 golf tournament.

Reuter is hoping to defend his district title and punch his second trip to state.

Reuter will have some stiff competition for medalist honors at districts. Swallows beat Reuter by one stroke at the St. Maries Invitational earlier this season on the same golf course.

Arthun believes Reuter has what it takes to repeat.

"He's just got to take it one hole at a time," he said, "and not have those bad holes, which is easier said than done, but I think he's starting to peak."
