Foundation awards EPLFD $27K grant
PRIEST LAKE — The East Priest Lake Fire District was selected to receive a $27,000 grant by the Gary Sinise Foundation, founded by actor and philanthropist Gary Sinise.
The grant allowed the district to get critical fire kit and incident gear turnouts for its volunteers.
EPLFD Chief Tom Renzi applied to the foundation for the grant, which will pay for 12 turnouts to outfit and protect volunteer firefighters. In a press release, foundation officials said they were pleased to assist the new fire district and a community in need of better access to first responders. The district, located on the east side of Priest Lake, was formed by voters last year following several wildfires and the loss of two homes in the area.
Sinise is perhaps best known as “Lieutenant Dan” in the Tom Hanks classic movie, “Forrest Gump”. He formed the foundation in 2011 in order to help the nation’s military, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.
“Please know that this is our pleasure, and serves as a 'thank you' from Gary and our thousands of donors from all over the state,” the foundation’s first responder outreach team told EPLFD officials. “The work you and your members have done, and will continue to do, is invaluable to your community and we are honored to be able to support you.”
Renzi said the fire district and those it protects are thankful for the support.
“We are greatly appreciative of the support they showed the EPLFD by giving us this generous grant,” he said.
