May 27, 1971 – ARMY COURSE ENDED
Army Pvt. Nikolaus Kuprienko, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wolodimir Kuprienko, Priest River, completed a 7-week wheel vehicle mechanic course at the U.S. Army Training Center, Infantry, Ft. Ord. Calif.

HOSPITAL ARRANGES BUILDING LOAN
Bonner General Hospital directors made an agreement with a Florida banking firm to borrow funds for a new community hospital. Chairman Jack Parker said the amount borrowed will depend upon Hill-Burton funds received. Ground breaking won’t likely take place this year, but it seems that hopes for a new hospital will finally become reality.

FAIR BUILDINGS ISSUE SETTLED
Bonner County’s commissioners and Sandpoint city officials finally reached agreement Monday about the city’s takeover of structures at the former fairground, which will be conveyed to the city July 1, no strings attached. The only exception is the small caretaker’s house near the War Memorial.

FINNEY TO GRADUATE
Gary A. Finney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvan Finney, Sandpoint, will receive his juris doctor’s degree from the University of Idaho May 30.

May 27, 1921 – CITY BREVITIES
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hupp and infant daughter, Shirley, of Kendrick, were week-end guests at the home of Mrs. Hupp’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Allen. They made the trip overland by auto, arriving here Friday and departing Monday.
The Lakeside laundry, which has been under lease to W.J. Hagemen since W.J. Davis’ death last fall, will be taken over by Mrs. Davis on June 1.

FEDERAL JURY INDICTS BONNER MEN
The federal grand jury, in session this week at Coeur d’Alene, returned seven indictments against Bonner county men for alleged violation of the national liquor laws, up to last night, while federal officers who were in the city yesterday stated that others would probably be forthcoming.

SANDPOINT GIRL TAKES HONORS
Miss Mary Helphrey [Note: later Mrs. Mary Parker] of Sandpoint, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.S. Helphrey, who graduates from Cheney, Wash. normal school this June, made a high record for scholarship during her normal course and completes her studies the third highest in the class. She has also been chosen to enact the part of Sacajawea, Indian maiden who guided Lewis and Clark in their exploration of the west, at the annual commencement pageant at the normal school.
