CASA plans popular Purse Party fundraiser

| November 2, 2021 1:00 AM

This is one fundraiser that has fun all bagged up.

That’s because it’s North Idaho CASA’s annual Purse Party — and the name of the game is literally where recycling handbags gives new meaning to “Purses for a Purpose.”

After the event had to go virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is back to an in-person event and North Idaho CASA couldn’t be more excited, , said Kristin Ludwig, director of development for North Idaho CASA

“We are thrilled to be back in person,” she said. “Our online event last year was a true testament to the unwavering support CASA receives in Bonner County. This annual event has become a staple to our donors and we appreciate every handbag donated or purchased.”

The event will be held Thursday, Nov. 18, from 4-7 p.m. at the Pend d’Oreille Winery tasting room. It’s an event the community has been supporting for over a decade. The event features hundreds of handbags that will be available for purchase or up for silent auction bid. Appetizers and wine will be available to guests who are encouraged to mingle and shop during the three-hour event.

“Many ladies give back what they used over the last year, so they can buy something “new” to them for the upcoming year,” Ludwig said. “Our timing is perfect to kick off your holiday shopping with CASA.”

CASA supports trained advocates for over 350 child abuse and neglect victims in North Idaho. Advocates investigate child protection cases, represent the child’s best interest in court, and help with the reunification process or safely transition children into a new home with a forever family.

Judy Labrie, former CASA advocate and founder of the Purse Party, and board liaison Lara Gamel, have been involved with the fundraiser from the beginning. Recycling handbags gave new meaning to “purses for a purpose” when money raised can help purchase new, needed items for kids in foster care.

In Bonner County, the CASA Program has 26 active advocates serving 62 kids from 44 families. Through donations and fundraisers, like the Purse Party, CASA can recruit, train and support enough advocates to ensure that every child victim has a voice.

Purse drop locations are around downtown Sandpoint. CASA would not be able to advocate for the children of Bonner County without the continued support of the Pend d’Oreille Winery, Finan McDonald, Style Bar, Nieman’s Florist, Bizarre Bizarre, Eve’s Leaves, Carousel Emporium, Alpine Shop, and X-Hale Pilates Studio.
