NURSES RETIRE

Two women with a combined nursing experience of 60 years have retired from Bonner General Hospital. They are Mrs. Lillian Scott, RN, of Hope and Mrs. Osa L. Bonar, LPN, 531 N. Boyer Ave., Sandpoint. Both joined the old Sandpoint Community Hospital nursing staff in 1942 and continued their careers with Bonner General. They were honored with a retirement party in the hospital dining room. Mrs. Bonar recalls that when she and Mrs. Scott joined the nursing staff in 1942 their duties encompassed “just about everything and the two of us cared for 35 patients. We had complete responsibility for all type of patients,” she added. “The maternity section of the old hospital was occupied by five to 10 mothers and babies most of the time. Mrs. Scott was paid $90 per month and I received $85.85.”

Pend d’Oreille Review

Nov. 16, 1921 – BURGLARS DRAW BLANK

Thieves Monday night sawed the steel bolt locking the door of the Elks’ club and effected entrance but their efforts were unavailing. Nothing was taken so far as could be determined. There was no money in the cash register and a new safe installed the day before was unmolested. The club was entered several weeks ago and $60 taken, likely by the same persons.

CHAMBER TALKS GOOD ROADS AND PARK

But 20 people attended Wednesday’s chamber of commerce dinner, as the local merchants were unable to be present due to the rush of business that day, the fifth community sales day. The trend of the discourses was toward good roads and the need of a tourist park. It was agreed that a suitable tourist park on the lake shore here would be slow coming due to the extensive need for finances, and Earl Farmin suggested that arrangements be made to secure a park site on the Riley place at the south end of the long bridge.
