Pepper Rickert claims singles, doubles titles at Peak Tennis Center

Sandpoint seventh-grader Pepper Rickert won the women's open division singles and doubles championships recently during the Peak Tennis Club Member Tournament in Hayden.

Rickert defeated Tish Litven of Sandpoint in the singles championship 6-1, 6-0.

"The score does not reflect how hard fought the points were," Sandpoint High tennis coach Kent Anderson said. "Both players were hitting laser cross-court drives and attacking the net at every opportunity in a demonstration of very high level tennis."

Rickert, Anderson's granddaughter, teamed up with Joy Clark to win the doubles championship.

"Their opponents came back after losing the first set 6-1 and won the second set 6-4 to force a 10-point tiebreaker," Anderson said. "Pepper and Joy fell behind 3-0 then came back and won 10 of the next 12 points to take the tiebreaker 10-5 and earn another hard-fought championship."
