KALISPELL, Mont. — Following a silver medal finish in the Pend Oreille Cup, the Sandpoint Strikers U13 boys captured first at the Tamarack Fall Classic held last weekend in Kalispell.

The annual tournament is one of the largest in the region.

The U13 team played up an age division but outscored their opponents 13-3 over four matches. In the championship, the Strikers found themselves trailing 1-0 at the half to Big Sky FC, but they stormed back in the second half to win 2-1.

Pax Longanecker scored on a free kick from just outside the penalty box and then assisted Jeru Gidley on a go-ahead goal with about 10 minutes left in the match.

"The final was physical and closely contested," coach Jameson Longanecker said. "All of our players showed true grit against a bigger, older team. I am so proud of how they conducted themselves and ultimately fought to win this one."

The team now moves on to compete in league games where they will face teams from Washington and Idaho.
