Dean Eric Black
Dean Eric Black was born on June 23, 1951, in Lewiston, Idaho. He passed away on September 15, 2021.
Growing up, his family lived in numerous towns across Washington, Idaho and Arizona. Dean graduated from Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1969.
After graduation, he enlisted and served the United States Army in Vietnam and Germany. He was a sharpshooter and received a Bronze Star for his service. He served as a heavy equipment operator.
After he came home, he married Nikki Noble and had two kids, Shawn Delaney and Jennifer Ann Black.
In 1993, he married Kathy Landrie and became dad to Matthew, Missiee and Kevin. After 13 years of marriage, Kathy sadly passed away from an illness.
After his loss, Dean married Luwana in 2006 and off they went on many adventures across the West. They lived in Priest River, Idaho, in the summers and Oatman in the winters. They were always going fishing or to music festivals, demolition derbies, concerts, biker rodeos, boat races and car shows.
Dean loved restoring and collecting old cars and could fix anything with a motor. When he was 3 years old, he could identify any car on the road by make model and year.
He is preceded in death by his second wife, Kathy; his parents, Rose Zella and Harold Francis; and very recently his son, Shawn Delaney Black.
He is survived by his amazing wife, Luwana of 15 years; his siblings, Beverly, Sandy and Ron; his kids, Jenny Black (granddaughter Adora); Matthew Radeck, Kevin Landrie and Missiee Setzer (grandkids Elizabeth, Kymera and Lucifer); Shawn’s daughters, Kasey, Madison and Gracie; and nieces and nephews from coast to coast.
Dean taught us that you can’t judge a book by its cover — he would give you the shirt off his back and had a true heart of gold.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, at 1914 N. Monroe St. in Spokane.
