Bullpup girls place first at Lakeland Invite, second at Cherry Hill

HAUSER — The Sandpoint Middle School girls cross country team captured first in the varsity and junior varsity races at the Lakeland Invite at Hauser Lake on Monday, Sept. 27.

The Bullpups edged out Woodland Middle School 55-47 in the girls varsity race. Izzy Waters grabbed third, Elizabeth Storms fifth, Hannah Stiller sixth, Silivi Landrum 16th, Siena Todd-Murray 17th and Jordyn Tomco 20th.

In the girls JV race, Piper Roark was second, Abbi Frances 10th, Addison Williams 11th, Hannah Ricks 15th and Izzy Bostock 19th.

"We have nine girls that could legitimately score every meet," coach Jake Peterson said. "The girls front to back are the fastest we have ever coached."

Roman Coscarelli led the way in the boys varsity race at the meet, securing fourth on the 1.5-mile course. Jeru Gidley earned 10th, Dawson Wood 17th, Seth Grillo 23rd, Evan Brubaker 27th and Jakeb Addison 34th.

Oliver Porietis took 14th in the boys JV race, Kale Wright 20th, Aaron Cornelius 29th, Tryson Mounts 34th and Sam Brown 38th.

At the Cherry Hill Meet hosted by Lakes Middle School in Coeur d'Alene on Wednesday, Sept. 22, the Bullpup girls finished second behind Coeur d'Alene Charter.

Storms placed ninth, Mackenzie Mitchell 10th, Stiller 11th, Bailey Majors 15th, Todd-Murray 29th and Tomco 38th. SMS nabbed third in the girls JV race. Sonya Lane was 12th, Roark 13th, Williams 15th, Bostock 21st and Jean Marshall 24th.

The varsity boys were sixth as a team. Coscarelli earned sixth, Gidley 16th, Wood 25th, Grillo 32nd and Anthony Tallent 42nd.

Wyatt Greenwood secured 23rd in the boys JV race, Mounts 34th, Porietis 50th, Wright 54th and Harley Gaudet 59th.

"Boys are gaining confidence fast and making huge progress in a little amount of time," Peterson said.

The Bullpups compete in the district meet at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
