Sandpoint eSports gets season underway
SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint eSports club has officially started its season.
The team competed in its first event on Sept. 27 with a solid group of kids that are not only playing video games, but working out on a consistent basis.
The club is hitting the track and weight room two to three times a week for 30-45 minutes prior to playing.
"Some of my best players I've ever had were varsity level athletes, and I don't think that is a coincidence," club adviser Dalton Hawkins said. "This is similar to what college and professional teams do, admittedly with more athletic training support. Ideally this is supposed to help improve reaction time, but ultimately I'm just happy to have them in there getting their heart rates up for a bit."
To add to the excitement of the season, Ting Internet has generously paid the club's registration cost for the entire year. This means that every player can compete for the school without worrying about paying the usual dues each season.
Each player who continues to fundraise can earn a custom jersey with their own name on it.
If you're a student or you know someone who might be interested in competing for Sandpoint eSports, the club meets in S-1 at SHS right after school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday. Be ready with workout clothes, a water bottle, a post-workout snack and your favorite controller.
