As the leaves begin to fall from the trees, the branches peek through like long and skeletal fingers. Halloween is approaching.

Have you already scrolled through Pinterest and grown disenchanted with the banality of the same handful of crafts appearing again and again? Perhaps the pictures you draw your inspiration from and the end result of your crafting are two very different beasts, and now you realize the true horror is that you can’t find anyone to help you figure out what went wrong or how to improve.

You can put your fears to rest with Creativebug. Creativebug is a website accessible through the digital library at ebonnerlibrary.org. If you have a library card, you have access at absolutely no cost to you. So what is Creativebug, exactly?

Unlike most websites, Creativebug offers full step-by-step video tutorials for each craft it offers. This thoroughness brings a focus to individual crafts, and decreases visual clutter you’ll find in other mediums. Searching for “Halloween” immediately brought up a number of fun and unique crafts with full instructions, including crochet black cats, furry animal hats, DIY masks and my personal favorite: felt beards.

I understand that Halloween isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. Creativebug offers lots of different crafts, including colorful quilts and clothing to ward off the winter’s frigid bite. Before you know it, Christmas will be here and what kid doesn’t want their own personal Pokemon knitted cap?

Only the lame ones wouldn’t want one of those. I’m a cool adult, and I even want one.

Check out Creativebug today. You never know - the skill to become a maker may have been locked inside of you all along, and that’s not scary at all.
