Nancy Jones Hess, 69
Nancy Jones Hess, 69, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a short battle with lymphoma. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint.
Born Nancy Grayson Jones on May 13, 195,2 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to William and Catherine Jones, Nancy was one of three daughters raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended and graduated from Randolph-Macon Women’s College as an art major.
Her free spirited nature led her to Boulder, Colorado, where she met her first husband, Joe Bowman. They settled in Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1976 where they raised three children.
On June 23, 2001, Nancy married her soulmate, Lenny Hess. They lived in South Sandpoint where Nancy spent countless hours curating her garden and decorating their home in her own eclectic style. Her happiest times were spent there with family and friends, hosting parties and swinging with her grandchildren in the hammock. Nancy and Lenny loved their trips to Maui and summers on Lake Pend Oreille where they could often be found beached at Springy Point. She was a progressive thinker and supported a number of local causes including the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force. Ever vibrant and joyful, Nancy spread love to those around her. No one felt this more than her children, grandchildren and Lenny, whom she loved with her whole heart.
She is survived by her husband, Lenny Hess of Sandpoint; three children, Marita and Lee Beier of Mauston, Wisconsin, Caleb and Lisa Bowman of Sandpoint, and Clayton and Kelsey Bowman of Sandpoint; five grandchildren, Ben, Emily, Blair, Victoria Grayson, and Peyton; her twin sister, Martha Jones of Williamsburg, Virginia, and her younger sister Susan Luce of Mobile, Alabama.
It was important to Nancy to support her community and to help others. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Panhandle Alliance for Education, the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force or to the local charity of your choice.
