COEUR d'ALENE — Spartan girls soccer gave it their all, but nothing was going to stop powerhouse Coeur d'Alene Charter from rolling to yet another state berth.

The five-time defending 3A state champion Panthers (16-1) handed No. 5 seed Priest River a 12-0 defeat in the semifinals of the 3A District 1-2 tournament this past Friday to end their season.

Coeur d'Alene Charter outshot the Spartans 23-0 and sophomore goalkeeper Brooklyn Best made seven saves.

Priest River earned a spot in the district semis by upsetting Grangeville 2-1 in the first round of the tournament on Oct. 11. Ultimately, the Spartans finished one win short of earning a berth to state.

Priest River finishes 4-13-1. Head coach Rob Lawler said its always tough seeing the season come to an end, but he believes this group has the potential to do something special in the coming years with everyone coming back next fall.

"I'm extremely proud of what the lady Spartans accomplished," he said. "They are a young team with nine new players this year out of 15. For this team to come together in nine short weeks and grow into a team that could run with the pack only bodes well for their future. I'm super excited what they will accomplish in the next few seasons as they continue to gain strength and technical aptitude."
