Prater Red 2 fire under control
PRIEST RIVER — A fire located 11 miles northeast of Priest River is 100% contained as of Wednesday morning.
The Prater Red 2 Fire burned 42 acres of Idaho endowment lands, and officials said the cause is still under investigation. North Idaho Type 3 Team handed control of the area over to West Pend Oreille Fire District on Sept. 8.
Road closures around the fire have been lifted, and containment lines have been rehabilitated. People who are travelling or recreating in the area are asked to have caution in the area, because fire-weakened material can roll down steep slopes and into roadways, according to Idaho Department of Lands officials in a press release.

The Trestle Creek Complex remains unchanged from Tuesday, with no new updates from IDL or InciWeb, a wildland fire tracking database. The complex burning four miles north of Hope is 60% contained as of Wednesday A Type 3 incident team with a crew of 223 personnel is creating fuel breaks along the west and south flanks of the fire with the use of heavy equipment. Hand crews are also being used to extinguish spot fires.
Authority over the Burnt Peak and South Yaak fires burning around Troy, Mont. is changing on Thursday, Sept. 9. Control is being handed over from Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 7 to Three Rivers Ranger District. An unmanned aerial system, also known as a drone, was used to map the area within the fire and found a total of five hot spots within the fires’ perimeters.
The South Yaak fire remains 89% contained, and has burned 12,489 acres. The South Yaak fire has burned 4,099 acres and is 41% contained.
