SANDPOINT — A pair of local churches are partnering with 2nd Harvest of Spokane on a pair of free food distribution events in early October.

On Friday, Oct. 1, Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church is partnering with 2nd Harvest of Spokane to bring its final food distribution of the year to the community. The event will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., or until supplies run out.

On Tuesday, Oct. 5, First Lutheran Church is partnering with 2nd Harvest for a free food distribution event. The event will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., or until supplies run out.

Both events are drive-thru style events with supplies for up to an estimated 250 families.

At Christ Our Redeemer, the food distribution event will be held in the parking lot of the church, rain or shine. Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church is located at 1900 Pine Street in Sandpoint, across the street from the YMCA.

Participants are asked to enter through the Lincoln Avenue side of the parking lot and exit right onto Pine Street. Guests are asked not to arrive before 11 a.m., as it causes traffic and safety concerns.

At First Lutheran Church, 526 S. Olive Ave., the food distribution also will be held in the parking lot. Participants are asked to enter through the Lincoln Avenue side of the parking lot and exit right onto Pine Street. Guests are asked not to arrive before 11 a.m., as it causes traffic and safety concerns.

"During this time of financial strain and food insecurity for many, the event will bring free food to those in need within the community," said Kessin Drews, COR office manager. "Additional safety and sanitation steps are being taken by both staff and volunteers to ensure the risk is minimal to all who attend."

Recipients will not be asked to sign in or show any documentation. Instead, Drews said they simply need to drive up to receive the groceries. Unless supplies change, the expected distribution will include meat, produce, pantry items, bread, and more.

The churches are encouraging everyone to help spread the word to those who may be facing challenges feeding their families during this time.
