IBEW members donate to FFOC program

Members of the IBEW Local Union No. 77 have donated $1,145 to Food For Our Children and its weekend food program.

IBEW picked the program due to their concern for community members knowing that there is food insecurity for many families. Whenever she sees an opportunity to help feed children and families, she does what she can, IBEW member Kellee Merrill said.

With the support of fellow members, Merrill applied for a scholarship program through the IBEW Local Union No. 77 naming Food For Our Children to be the recipient for the scholarship. The group's motto, “Local Union 77, Working Within Our Communities to Bring power to the People,” she said

Among FFOC's programs is one that provides weekend food bags to local children in need in Bonner County during the school year. Each school year, FFOC provides 13,000 to 15,000 weekend food bags.

“We are so happy to be the recipient of their generosity – this donation will help us to support 229 of our elementary school kids with food they may otherwise not have access tom” said FFOC board member Michele Murphree.
