PINEHURST — The Clark Fork golf team started its season with an eight team scramble event at the Pinehurst Golf Course on Monday.

The Wampus Cats’ two standouts Cole Sanroman and Lilly Reuter teamed up and finished second, shooting six under par.

“I was proud of how they did,” Clark Fork golf coach Brian Arthun said. “Especially with how wet it was. They pushed through it and put it together.”

The scramble was put to an end after 12 holes due to snowy conditions according to Arthun.

Sanroman and Reuter finished just one stroke behind event winners St. Maries.

The remaining four Clark Fork golfers; Hudson McDaniel, Jacob Abott, Landon Pierson, and Zack Mueller competed as a group and finished in first place.

“It was their first time on the golf course this season,” Arthun said. “They did a really good job keeping it all together.”

Abbott and Pierson competed for the Wampus Cats last year, but this was McDaniel’s and Mueller’s first taste of competitive golf.

“I thought both of them did really well,” Arthun said. “Both of them really drove the ball. They’re both pretty strong and hit the ball pretty straight for the most part.”

The Wampus Cats were able to get outside for the first time this season during this event so it was a bit unfortunate it had to be called after 12 holes.

Nonetheless, Arthun is still pleased with his team’s performance after not being able to practice on the course all season.

“We do have a really nice facility but our greens just aren’t up to par,” Arthun said. ”We struggled a bit with putting but it's the first time we’ve got on true actual greens. It’s something that we’ll work on and improve the potential of this year’s team.”

Next up for the Wampus Cats is an 18-hole event in Moscow hosted by Logos High School.
