Saturday slate heavy for local teams
The spring sports teams from the area will be busy today.
There are seven events scheduled for teams from Sandpoint, Clark Fork, and Priest River.
Those who qualified for Sandpoint’s track team will be at the Pasco Invitational at 9 a.m. The Sandpoint baseball team will be back at Memorial Field for a doubleheader against Inland Empire League foe Post Falls at 12 p.m. Sandpoint dropped its last doubleheader at Memorial Field against Lake City, 14-11, 11-0.
The Bulldogs are entering this game 2-3 overall and 0-1 in Inland Empire League play. The Trojans are 5-5 overall and 3-3 in league.
Post Falls is currently in last place in the 5A Inland Empire League and is five games behind league leader Lewiston.
Sandpoint’s softball team will also face off against Post Falls today, but it’ll be on the road starting at 12 p.m.
The Bulldogs won its first game of the season on Thursday against Bonners Ferry 28-5.
Not only was it its first win of the season, but it was also senior night, and its first home game of the season.
The win improved the Bulldogs record to 1-6 overall, putting them three games back in the 4A Inland Empire League.
Their opponent, Post Falls, has nearly double the amount of games played, sitting at 8-4 overall, two games behind league leader Lewiston.
The Trojans started their season hot, winning seven out of their first eight games. But they're 1-3 in their last four.
Priest River is also booked today with a track meet, softball, and baseball game.
Starting with the softball team, they’ll face off against Timberlake at 11 a.m. at home in a doubleheader.
Timberlake is currently 7-2 and on top of the 3A Intermountain League.
Priest River sits in second place with a 1-6 overall record and 1-1 league record.
The Spartans should have some momentum after winning its first game of the season against Bonners Ferry on Wednesday, 32-23.
The baseball team will also be playing Timberlake at home today in a doubleheader.
The Tigers are sitting in first place in the 3A Intermountain League by one game.
Priest River is 2-7, third in the league.
The Priest River track team will travel to Newport High School for a meet today at 1 p.m.Finally, the Clark Fork tennis team will compete in its first event of the season at Lewiston High School at
