Page brothers win game in OT for Bulldogs
The Sandpoint boys lacrosse team held on to a slim 7-8 lead over Palouse conference foe Lake City On Saturday.
In the final seconds of regulation, the T-Wolves would go on to score to send the game into overtime.
Freshman Owen Page found his brother Max Page at the goal line extended with eight seconds left on the clock.
Page scored the goal with eight seconds left in overtime to win the game for the Bulldogs.
“This was super important to us,” Sandpoint lacrosse coach Dakota Blaese said. “We haven’t beat Lake City in a long time.”
This win also keeps the Bulldogs alive for playoff contention. Sandpoint will have to win out from here, however.
“It was a must-win situation for us,” Blaese said. “It kept us alive and it was a big deal for all of us.”
Sandpoint got on the board first against Lake City. The two teams took turns trading goals back and forth in the first quarter.
By the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at two apiece.
Sandpoint kept the pedal to the metal and actually held a one goal lead heading into the locker room. This was a huge momentum booster, according to Blaese.
Once the Bulldogs came back to the field, Lake City immediately scored two goals to pull ahead.
“The guys started going back and thinking here we go again,” Blaese said. “But they kept fighting and rallying.”
The Bulldogs kept fighting and scratching until they tied the game up at six.
With four minutes left on the clock Sandpoint would once again retake the lead 8-7.
Sandpoint tried its best to melt the clock, but Lake City managed to get a turnover with 40 seconds left in regulation.
“I looked at the guys and told them, you have to want it,” Blaese said. “We did a great job defensively and offensively in the overtime period.”
Sandpoint improved to 2-3, with its next home game being on Saturday, May 6 at Memorial Field against Post Falls.
