Drip irrigation system class being offered
The WSU Master Gardeners are offering an in-person class on “Install Your Own Drip Irrigation System”, on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This class will be taught by Master Gardeners Dixie Chichester and Barbara Bateman. They will discuss the benefits of drip irrigation, parts of a basic drip irrigation system, optional parts, required tools, yearly maintenance, and tips for success. A tour of the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden will take place in order for participants to see first-hand how the drip irrigation system is set up in their garden.
Installing a drip water system for your own garden is an efficient way to create a healthier garden and is much more cost effective, using 20 to 50 percent less water than normal sprinkler systems. Drip irrigation goes straight into the ground and isn’t susceptible to water run-off, drift, or evaporation. The class fee is $5, ($3 for Master Gardeners), and can be paid by check, money order, or through PayPal.
Class location: Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, located right behind the WSU Pend Oreille County Extension Office building, located at 227A S. Garden Ave., Newport WA. Participants are encouraged to bring a folding lawn chair.
To register for the class call Program Coordinator, Beverly Sarles, M-F, 8-4:30 p.m., at 509-447-2401 or email anytime at: beverly.sarles@wsu.edu.
