Festival hosts two concerts today

| August 7, 2022 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — There are two, count 'em two, great Festival at Sandpoint concerts being held today.

First up is the Family Matinee concert with Lisa Livesay. The concert will be held from noon-2 p.m.

Livesay is thrilled to be a guest at The Festival at Sandpoint, singing some of the beloved music of her childhood. She has headlined her one-woman show at the Kennedy Center, and she is currently touring the globe singing Disney music with world-class symphonies.

She is an experienced voice actor — featured in commercials and audiobook musicals such as Puss in Boots and Spin!, for which she won Audie awards. Lisa resides in Los Angeles, where she sings on the soundtracks for film and TV. In addition to her performing career, Lisa is earning her degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the City College of New York.

To cap off the night — and put the Festival at Sandpoint to bed for the season — is the Grand Finale with Morihiko Nakahara.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. with a wine tasting prior from 5-7 p.m.

Now in its 76th season, the Spokane Symphony continues a long tradition as the largest and most active professional performing arts organization in the Inland Northwest.

Led by James Lowe, the eight music director in the organization’s history, the 70-piece professional orchestra performs for more than 150,000 listeners each season, providing a wide variety of concerts and educational experiences.

Conducting this concert is Morihiko Nakahara, who spent 16 years as resident conductor of the Spokane Symphony. He is also the music director of the South Carolina Philharmonic and the director of orchestra studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

He is well-known for his charismatic presence on and off the podium, his innovative and audience-friendly programming skills, and thoughtful interpretations of both standard and contemporary repertoire.
