| August 7, 2022 1:00 AM

A Laclede man was airlifted to an area hospital after he was injured in a Saturday car crash, Idaho State Police said.

The two-vehicle collision occurred about 10:50 a.m., Aug. 6, near milepost 27 on U.S. 2 just west of Sandpoint.

ISP officials said the driver of a 2005 Honda Pilot was stopped westbound on U.S. 2 at Westwood Drive to turn south when the Laclede man, who was driving a 1982 Chevy El Camino, was unable to stop and struck the rear of the Honda Pilot.

The Honda Pilot was occupied by a 55-year-old female and a 63-year-old male out of Spokane, Washington, and both were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the El Camino was occupied by a 89-year-old male from Laclede, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The driver was airlifted to an area hospital due to his injuries.

Traffic on the highway was blocked both directions for approximately three hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved.

Alcohol was not a factor.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
