At the Neopit area near Outlet Bay on the west side of Priest Lake, at least one bear has learned all he has to do is push on the French doors of a certain cabin to get in to look for food.

Gem Community meets
Don’t forget the Gem Community Development Committee meeting Thursday at City Hall. The meeting is for the purpose of reviewing grant applications for community improvement projects that fall under the top several goals identified during the Gem Community certification process.

Diamond back to work
Diamond International workers went back to work Monday officially ending a closure of the Albeni Falls operation which had lasted for 11 months. Local workers voted to forestall a pay increase in exchange for guaranteed work through the end of the year.

Scouts backpack on hike
Jeff Connolly, Jules Edwards and Brad Murray, scouts of Troop 600, joined scouts from Oldtown for their annual 50-mile-plus backpacking trek. The young men carried all their food, shelter, clothing, etc. The trek took place on the Bear Paw Divide north from Pass Creek Pass to Little Snowy Top Mountain, then east and down to Trail 301 and Upper Priest River, north to the Upper Priest River Falls and back to the road where Mr. And Mrs. Connolly provided the transportation home.

All students participating in the city 1962 swimming program will put on a water show for the benefit of parents this Sunday. The show will be under the direction of Sally McCarthy.

Griffith sale is total dispersal
One of the largest purebred Hereford cattle dispersal sales in the history of this area will take place when M. E. Griffith sells his entire herd at his ranch on the highway just west of Priest River. Included will be four herd sires and 14 yearling bulls, 113 females and 96 breeding cows, 68 with calves at the side.

Changes hands
Bruno’s Beer Parlor, located opposite the Roxy Theater, disposed of one-half interest in the business to Mrs. Suzanne Sanderson and Mrs. Cora Day. The Parlor is now being rearranged. Additional room is being prepared on the north side for the installation of booths and tables.

Lightning causes fire
The lightning of Tuesday evening struck a standing snag near Gold Cup starting a small fire. The blaze was reported by one of the lookouts to Fire Warden Mulvilhill, who put men on the job at once. The men were unable to locate the fire Wednesday morning, and it is presumed that the blaze was put out by the rain which followed.
100 Years Ago — 1922
Kids treated
A happy bunch of 21 youngsters ate pink popcorn, had candy and enjoyed the matinee at the Macy-Baird tent show as the guests of ferryman, W. J. Geary. They are the children whom Mr. Geary carries across the river on the ferry on their way to attend school on this side.
