Article author can't do basic math

I was excited to read “NIC students take home prizes from INBRE Conference” published on Aug. 11, but was disappointed to see the focus of the article. They were only nine total industry interns, while there were 86 fellows. Apparently the author cannot do basic math 1/9 is greater than 3/86. What should I expect from the media? Accuracy?
