Planning Commission meets tonight
SANDPOINT — The Planning Commission will discuss their recommended changes to the board’s goals, objectives, and policies at a public meeting today, Aug. 30.
The public meeting comes after two public workshops, which attracted a lot of community feedback and input. The results of the last workshop on Aug. 16, while they were uploaded to the county website, were only available for a day and were then scrubbed from the county website following a decision by planning staff, according to county planner Swati Rastogi.
A few days after the marathon meeting, the Bee contacted the Planning Department and was told the Aug. 16 updates would be uploaded within a few days – as had been discussed at that public workshop – and they ultimately were.
However, Planning Department staff said the Aug. 16 document was “incomplete” despite the edits almost being finalized at the last public workshop.
When asked who made the decision to scrub the updates, Rastogi told the Daily Bee “it was a staff decision.” When asked if she thought this was adequately transparent, she said it was not about her opinion, but defended the decision because the Comp Plan process has been going on since 2017.
“If you had gone to the workshops, you would know that the sub area plans were discussed at great length,” she said.
The Daily Bee has been present for both workshops.
Info: Before deciding whether to recommend these changes to the goals, objectives, and policies for the current Comprehensive Plan for approval by the Bonner County Commissioners, the Planning Commission will meet at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at the County Administrative Building (1500 U.S. 2, Sandpoint).
