| December 15, 2022 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — The first community Hanukkah Celebration will be held in Coeur d’Alene on Dec. 25. It comes on the heels of increasing interest in Jewish activities, according to a press release.

The celebration will feature a menorah lighting ceremony, Hanukkah songs and music, Hanukkah foods and treats. Rabbi Mendel and Esther Lifshitz of Boise will lead the ceremony and program sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch of Idaho.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of Coeur d’Alene to our growing list of Hanukkah celebrations this year,” said Rabbi Mendel Lifshitz, the organization’s director who oversees Jewish activities throughout Idaho. “Hanukkah is a time to celebrate religious freedom and the victory of good over evil, of light over darkness. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate.”

It will be held at 5:30 p.m. at a home in Coeur d'Alene and the public is welcome.
