Wampus Cats win conference opener
Clark Fork boys team had a hot start in Wednesday night's game. The Wampus Cats held Mullan to single digits in every quarter and came out with the win, 68-31.
Cole SanRoman hit seven points to contribute to the Wampus Cats 16 total points in the first quarter. Chase SanRoman, Ethan Howard, Nathan Shelton, and Seth Caven were also contributors.
Chase SanRoman had an incredible game with 10 points and 10 steals overall. Shelton had four points and nine boards for the game.
"I want to give Chase a shout out for his 10 seals," head coach Heath Beason said. "Absolutely phenomenal."
At the end of the first quarter, the Wampus Cats were up 16-8.
Caven went hard to the basket with 14 points in the second quarter. He also racked up 10 rebounds, three steals, and one block for Clark Fork. Chase and Cole SanRoman added another five points each to the board.
"We kept the pace up and kept our poise," Beason said.
Clark Fork led 44-17 heading into halftime.
Owen Bailey who typically plays JV for the Wampus Cats stepped up to varsity and made it count. He had 10 points in the third quarter and 12 points overall. Bailey also had three steals and six rebounds in the eight minutes that he played.
The Wampus Cats held their lead 62-24 heading into the final quarter.
The game slowed for both teams. Mullan outscored Clark Fork for the first time 7-6.
Solomon Holderman, freshman for the Wampus Cats, played up front on the press. He forced some turnovers, got two steals and one rebound.
"Everyone had something to contribute," Beason said.
Just as Beason said, all 14 players were on the floor in last nights game to help Clark Fork take the win.
"This was a very meaningful game to us," Beason said.
The Wampus Cats play again today at Wallace.
