Raymond Joseph Neuman, 91

SAN DIEGO — Raymond Joseph Neuman rejoined his wife, Dorothy, in the presence of the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022.

Ray was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Earl Louis and Maria Therese Amrhein Neuman. He graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and earned an MBA from MIT. A Navy veteran, Ray served as an officer in a Seabee battalion. The majority of his professional career was spent with Booz, Allen and Hamilton, focusing on international business consulting.

Ray married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Donnelly, on July 16, 1960. Throughout nearly 59 years of marriage, they lived all over the globe, including Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ireland, New Zealand, New York City, San Diego, Detroit, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Sandpoint, Idaho, and Warren, Ohio. He was fond of saying, “All those that wander are not lost.”

Ray lived a faith-filled, energetic life. He greatly enjoyed fishing, whether it was on the half-day boats in San Diego and Redondo Beach or on his skiff with Dorothy in the local kelp beds, in Alaska, Fiji, Costa Rica and whenever and wherever he was near water. Earlier, he was an avid golfer, tennis player and skier. Ray greatly enjoyed working in his shop, constructing fishing poles and woodworking.

Cherished memories of Raymond will be carried on by son Dr. Thomas (Dr. Eileen Kelley) Neuman; daughter Mary Catherine Neuman; and son Peter Neuman; sister Mary (Richard) Peterson; brother David (Anne) Neuman; and grandchildren Monica, Joseph, Nicolas and Tatiana.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; and brother Regis.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Dec. 21, 2022, at Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in La Jolla, Calif. Ray will be laid to rest in Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Raymond’s name to Father Joe’s Villages in San Diego.
